We recognise that some patients are anxious about visiting a dentist or about receiving a particular procedure.

At Cheltenham & Cotswold Dental we offer intravenous sedation to suitable patients if it is requested.

What is intravenous sedation?

Sedation is a safe and widely used method used to relax patients and is administered through a vein. During sedation, you are conscious and awake and are able to respond to verbal commands. Your breathing will be normal and our team will closely monitor you throughout the procedure.

What are the benefits?

If you are nervous about dental treatment it is an ideal way to help you relax. It will make you less aware of the procedure. You may have no recollection or just a partial recollection of the treatment afterwards.

Our expert clinicians are trained and experienced in the use of sedation and patient safety is at the heart of everything we do.

What do I need to do to prepare for sedation?

You should take all routine medicines as usual and eat a light meal 1-2 hours earlier. You will need an escort over the age of 18 with you to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.

When can sedation be used?

You can request intravenous sedation for all types of general dentistry including fillings and root canal treatments. It is most often used with more complex implant, bone and soft tissue regeneration procedures.
